Say what?

This is how Kade looked after his sinus surgery. They made an incision right between his eye and nose. They drained all the sinus' and his eye socket of all the infection. They also went up the right nostril and cleaned out the sinus' from there to. He had been on IV antibiotic since before surgery. His eye stared to look better, but he never felt a lot better. He started eating and walking, but only after we made him. He was still so tired and still had bad headaches.

Saturday Kim came in and stayed with Kade while I went home to see the other kids and go to church. I remember thinking that I should go to church because I had prayed for so many things the last couple of days. As it turned out, I'm glad I went to church to feel the spirit to be a little bit more prepared for the next week. Sunday after church I packed my little red suitcase with clothes for two days and a pair of pj's. I went in to see Kade. Kim left that night to go back home. The next morning as we waited for the Dr. to make his rounds. I looked over at Kade and I noticed one eye was open more than the other one. "Kade? Kade, can you hear me?" I ask. Silence. The nurse walks in and I ask her what's wrong with him. "I think he's just sleeping with his eyes open. Sometimes they do that." Kade moans. "Kade are you o.k.?" "Yes", he replies. Ten minutes later. Same thing. I touch him, pat his shoulder and then gentle shake his shoulder. Eyes open, but no response. I have a cousin who has seizures like this and at this point I know exactly what it is. I call the nurse. "I think those are seizures." I say to the nurse. The Dr. walks by our room. I grab him and drag him into the room just as Kade has another one. "I think they are seizures." I say again. "I do too.", the Dr. replies. A short time later we are preparing for a MRI. The next hour or so is a blur, and I seriously can't remember who or what exactly was said. I do know that they told me the infection had spread to his brain and that the pediatric nuerosurgeon was out of town. I was asked if I would like to fly to Salt Lake City or Seattle. I asked what the difference between to two was. He said it depended on what kind of family support I had in the two places. I said Salt Lake City. 3:00 was the time that our flight from Missloula, MT to Salt Lake City, UT was scheduled. We rode the ambulance to the airport in Mt and another ambulance to Primary Childrens Medical Center in UT. Kade doesn't remember either of the rides or the 1 hr 45 minute flight. He was so sick and medicated.

That ain't no sty!!!!!

Thursday, June 17, 2010
As I leave for work I see Kade standing by the fridge. He just woke up and his right eye looks funny, like he has 'pillow lines' on it.

Kade's eye is swollen. He must have gotten bitten by a spider.
Saturday, June 19, 2010
Holy cow! Kade's eye is swollen shut and hot to the touch. Kim takes him in to the Now Care because I have a Primary Activity. It is a sty--they say. Here is some medicine you should be good to go in a couple of days.

His eye is starting to go down, but he is so tired and not feeling well.

Kade and Kim went to Baptisms for the dead in Billings today. I am glad he seems to be feeling better.

After work I come home and Kade comes in from mowing the lawn. His eye looks really bad. As I take a closer look, the side of his face between his eye and ear is swollen. What the french toast? Does this hurt, I say as I gently touch it. YES! he hisses at me. That ain't no stinkin' sty!
Call Kim--I'm taking him to the ER so we can get a anti-biotic shot or something. We leave for Indian Creek in two days!
8:30 p.m. ER in Missoula Montana
Kade wants to call his dad for a blessing. Kim showers, calls a friend to meet him in Missoula and starts the hour long drive to the hospital.
From the time he left home til the time he showed up at the hospital the following list of things had happened:
1.) Had a CT scan
2.) Calling the surgeon on call to visit with CT gal
3.) surgeon on call decides to come in and look at the scan results in person
4.) surgeon is here and informs me that there might be a surgery that night to save the sight of my sons right eye. The sinus infection he had was so severe that the pressure broke through into his eye and was surrounding his optic nerve.
5.) Emergency surgery as of right now!
6.) text Kim---Hurry...they have to do surgery! WHAT????
&. Kim and his friend Jason make it just in time to give him a blessing.

12:15 Kade goes to surgery and we are praying he will be able to see when we see him again
"Happy Anniversary" I say to Kim through the tears of a mom's worried heart.
Little did we know...our adventure was just beginning.
To be continued....
