Hide & Seek

I love this girl. When she decides that something is right, she does it. Even if it is hard. She is a very hard worker. Recently I was gone for a girl weekend (Go Hollist Hotties!), while I was gone she took over the meals. She baked the lasagna I had assembled in the fridge. She cooked the baked spuds and heated up the stroganoff. She fixed sandwhiches and cleaned the kitchen the whole time I was gone.
She has also been helping me to shop for the camping trip. Two long days at the "zoo" town. She was wiped out. She hauled cases of pop, big bags of spuds and awkward bags of cantaloupe. She checked lists, reminded me of things I forgot and was the best helper I could have asked for.

A couple of weeks ago we when up to the mountains with Kim. He had a 'business meeting' and we all waited outside. The kids started palying hide-n-seek.

Kennedy was trying as hard as she could to not peek. She squirmed around and finally had to cover her eyes so she wouldn't 'cheat'.

Oh by the way, she only had to count to 20!

P.S. Just a little question.
Does anybody else have to pick seven--yes, I said seven---ticks off of your children while you waited in the 'parking lot' of your husband's business meeting?
Just checkin'.

Good ropers & Bad mom?

This poor little calf got out of the pen before he was branded. Three cowboys had thier ropes thrown before he could get to far. Two ropes were a little off, but our friend Rhett was right on the money. Too bad this wasn't a paying event!
Last night Dakota told me that they are having a 'ranch rodeo' on Saturday. They are 'bucking out' some horses too. He wants to ride one. When he asked me I was so torn, but I said that if that is what he wanted to do I would support him. That was the right thing, right? When he was little I put him in the mutton bustin' at a rodeo when he was way to little so that he would get hurt and not want to ever do this again. That plan did not work. Fourteen and a half years ago I learned Lamaze breathing. Who knew that I would be using that skill this weekend!

I put this picture in because it might be the last time you see my son in one piece. Oh dear!

Recipe of the day:

Cut up:
15 pounds spuds
14 hardboiled eggs
3 onions
1 quart homemade pickles(Rose Schmucker Recipe)...note to self 2 quarts next time

Add one cute assistant chef and special sauce
You get potato salad for a branding crew of 53!

P.S......one questionable thing

The Branding went great, there was just one...um....well....questionable thing.

This cowboy rode up to me on his horse and said,
What's for lunch, Sweet Cheeks?

Sweet Cheeks? What the...... What exactly is the proper response to that?

Why thank you kind sir.
Oh no you didn't!
Was that a compliment or a nice use of sarcasm?

I was strangly speechless and a tiny flattered all at the same time!

Oh the life I lead!

Branding 2009: Part One

I have said it before, and I'll probably say it again. Branding Day is like Christmas Morning to my husband. It is one of the funnest days of the year. He invited all the 'cool' help and had all the 'cool' equipment and I was to put on the 'cool' cowboy lunch. It was a great day. The weather was fabulous and everything went off without a hitch.
Kort made a new friend. He told me his name was Cashew....come to find out if is Cash. They had a great time together.

Dakota was not the manager's son today. He was one of the cowboys and did a great job.

Kennedy loves to ride horses...all of a sudden. Last year she was ok with it, this year she is obsessed.

Kassidy was very brave yelling at the cows when there is a fence between them and her.

6C Ranches

I am glad to be married to a cowboy and all the things that me and my family get to learn. A little scary sometimes, but he is slowly making a good working crew out of the lot of us!
I love you Kim! I am glad that we can help you to live your dream!
